At the end of last month and this month large numbers of wildebeest covered the plains around Maasai Mara turning it black as far as
the eye could see. Then towards mid month the big river crossings
began, many wildebeest were taken by crocodile and many more died
whilst crossing the Mara River. Wildebeest frequently cross the
Mara River in extraordinary places, often leaping off high sided
river banks into the swirling depths below, then fording the river
they reach the other side where they find that the river bank is too
high to climb out. With sheer numbers of them of piling up there,
many get trampled and die. A good few get taken by crocodile, although many crocodile on the river are now saturated with all the
feeding. Then towards the end of the month and the beginning of next
month many wildebeest crossed over to Mara River back to Serengeti Plains.
